Steven M. Apa, CPA
Mr. Apa is an astute and seasoned Certified Public Accountant with over 30 years of diverse experience combining cross-functional competencies in all phases of accounting, tax calculations, financial statement reporting, regulatory compliance, audit procedures, forensic accounting, and litigation support services. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the states of North Carolina and New York. His current and past professional memberships and affiliations include the AICPA, North Carolina Association of CPAs, and New York State Society of CPAs, where he has served on committees. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Northeastern University.
Mr. Apa obtained his due diligence, forensic accounting, and litigation support experience with a regional accounting firm as well as auditing experience with a Big Four accounting firm. He has over a decade of due diligence and litigation consulting experience which includes investigative auditing, pre-trial depositions and assisting expert witnesses with in-court testimony. He has participated in expert testimony preparation for witnesses in arbitration, bankruptcy and civil proceedings. Mr. Apa has special expertise in automated auditing technologies, including data mining and extraction, analyzing financial reports, as well as recognition and implementation of cost reduction measures.
With an accumulated diverse background in business and as evidenced through numerous public speaking and teaching opportunities, Mr. Apa is recognized by his peers as an expert in small to medium-sized business accounting, due diligence, and financial services. His vast experience includes working in the healthcare, banking, not-for-profit, wholesale to wholesale, wholesale to retail, emerging business, and manufacturing industries.
John E. Libby, CPA
John E. Libby is an 11-year tax veteran, dynamically skilled in tax management, finance, operations, and strategic business development. As an Associate Partner with the firm Steven M. Apa CPA, Mr. Libby’s professional strengths are focused on tax and accounting, audit, technology consulting, litigation support, and business valuation services to entrepreneurs, wealthy individuals, private and public corporations and legal practitioners across a broad range of industries.
Mr. Libby possess superior research and problem-solving skills honed through tax issue assessment and complex problem solving. His experience has covered more traditional management responsibilities, which include supervision of staff in tax preparation, general accounting, tax planning, tax research and business consulting to a wide range of companies in various industries. These industries include healthcare, real estate, construction, small businesses, banking and high net worth individuals.
Over the past 11 years, Mr. Libby has honed his skills and developed his experience in areas from business consulting to tax planning along with impeccable client service. He has focused his career assisting businesses, individuals, and organizations with tax strategy, planning, and compliance, while also delivering a wide range of business advisory services. Mr. Libby attended Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH where he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Finance and a Master’s degree in Accounting & Finance.
Mr. Libby is a Certified Public Accountant in the States of New Hampshire and Maine; a Certified Internal Auditor, and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance.
David B. Newman, JD
Mr. Newman is an accomplished attorney at law and a tax consultant with over 40+ years of experience. A seasoned tax lawyer; business lawyer; and business executive with extensive professional expertise with complex structured transactions; partnerships & pass-thru vehicles; tax controversy work; joint ventures; domestic & international taxation; real estate taxation; trusts & estates; dispositions & mergers; and distressed assets. As a member of our professional team, Mr. Newman primarily serves in the capacity of Tax and Financial Due Diligence as well as Litigation Support & Forensic Investigative Services. He is recognized as the firm’s expert in legal matters related to accounting, auditing, and tax matters, business valuations, forensic accounting matters, litigation support and expert witness testimony.
In the past, Mr. Newman has consulted and directed multifaceted client engagements in a wide range of industries providing a full spectrum of tax and business guidance to domestic and international entities, including corporate structure, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, inventory and other tax accounting methods, financial reporting, earnings and profits analysis, representation before various taxing authorities, multi-state tax restructuring and bankruptcy restructuring.

Mr. Newman's education background is extensive and prestigious having attended Harvard Business School - Advanced Management program; New York University Graduate School of Law, LLM Taxation; Cornell Law School, Juris Doctorate; and early on at New York University, Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance with honors.
Mr. Newman is currently admitted to practice law in the State of New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association; a member of the International Fiscal Association; and a Guest Lecturer at Harvard Law School, Cornell Law School, and at various tax forums. Mr. Newman was a co-editor of a major book on the taxation of financial instruments, he wrote a book on the taxation of financially distressed businesses; a major tax/finance article that appeared in the Tax Lawyer and was cited by the United States Congress in one of the Tax Reform Acts and his articles have been published in various law reviews and tax journals.
